Get to know Carolyn Bulmash

It is my belief that, at the core of psychotherapy, there is the desire to attend to emotions, thoughts, and behaviors that create stumbling blocks for individuals to live the lives they envision for themselves. It is my goal, desire, and fulfillment to partner with patients in creating a safe, trusting relationship that can be the catalyst for positive change. I believe these components, and a strong therapeutic bond, are essential in being able to work together to promote necessary change. I work to develop and deepen this trust by creating a genuine atmosphere of caring and safety by facilitating a space where individuals know they are being heard. I feel it is important, and enjoy, getting to know each patient—their individual needs, passions, and joy, alongside learning and understanding the disappointment, hurt, and trauma that led them to my office door. I work to generate hope by creating a space where my patients and I can engage in candid conversation, leading us to better understand their strengths and deepen self-knowledge and acceptance which will ideally lead to a healthier way of doing, thinking, and being.

About Carolyn Bulmash

Carolyn is a seasoned licensed clinical social worker who is passionate about providing treatment to those wishing to improve their lives through self-exploration. She excels in working with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, and loss. Carolyn spent the early portion of her career working with adolescents in residential treatment. She continued on to work in nursing homes and senior living communities, transitioning to private practice in 2003. Carolyn uses a psychodynamic approach, which is the process of uncovering the roots of difficulties that are impacting your life today. This intensive form of talk therapy leads to a deeper understanding, acceptance, and ultimately to relief, when examining the connections between thoughts, feelings, beliefs, motivations, and actions.

Carolyn graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social work from Syracuse University and earned a Master’s degree in social work from Loyola University, Chicago. She has also completed the Advanced Psychodynamic Fellowship in Clinical Practice through the University of Chicago.
