I have always been interested in human relationships. Why do we pick the same types of friends or partners over and over again expecting a different outcome?  Why do people experiencing similar obstacles or traumas have very different responses?  These types of questions were why I wanted to study psychology.  I wanted to help people learn about themselves, develop skills to have better relationships, and practice coping skills to help overcome obstacles in life.  My goal is to make the therapeutic relationship a safe place for you to share your feelings, explore your relationships, and develop skills to help live a happier, more fulfilling life.  I believe open communication and trust within that safe space is the first step to developing healthier relationships in life.

About dr. amy kingan

Dr. Amy Kingan has been in the field for over 25 years.  She received her undergraduate degree from DePaul University and her Master and Doctoral degrees from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology.  Her focus early on in her career was working with domestic violence victims and helping other professionals manage burnout and compassion fatigue.  She helped open a Safe House in the northwest suburbs of Chicago where she developed the clinical services for clients and implemented the required training for all staff and volunteers who worked with victims of domestic violence.  Currently, her interests are helping those who are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, mood disorders and PTSD from current life stressors and traumas and helping clients find ways to cope more effectively to lead happier, more satisfying lives.  Dr. Kingan also provides telehealth to clients who reside in PsyPact (https://www.psypact.org) states.
