Helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for one person.
This quote reveals why I wanted to become a psychologist. My inspiration began when I was a peer group leader during high school. While providing guidance and encouragement to students with various issues, I became aware of the power of a helping relationship. In college, my first psychology class explored the role of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. In addition, the emphasis on the benefits of a strong therapeutic relationship deepened my desire to pursue a career in psychology. The connection I form with my clients provides an opportunity to work through difficult issues and inspires goals to be set that once seemed unattainable. The best part of being a psychologist is seeing self-growth and increased awareness, and I am so lucky to be a part of the journey.
