Adolescent Therapy
Raising children can prove challenging for any parent. Especially in today’s world, our adolescents are confronted with many challenges that are complex and may differ from when we were growing up. We may find it hard to relate to some of the problems our children face in their day-to-day lives. There is also no cookie cutter way to raise children and adolescents due to a variety of factors, including genetic makeup, unique personal situations, and individual problems that differentiate from person to person. At Associates in Psychotherapy, we are well trained and equipped to support your child navigate stress, specific problems, and communication issues, and help improve their overall functioning. In addition, we can help teach and explore more effective parenting strategies for your specific family and circumstance.
Some common issues we treat in our practice:
- Stress related to home, school, and social problems
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Academic challenges
- Acting out
- Self harm
- Trauma
- Deficits in communication skills
- Interpersonal difficulties
- LGBTQ+
How therapy can help:
Associates in Psychotherapy recognizes the importance of creating individualized treatment plans for your adolescent’s specific situation. Our team of therapists uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help your teen identify thought patterns that may impact their emotions and actions. We teach our clients how to reframe unproductive thoughts while also helping them develop more productive coping/problem solving skills that will be helpful throughout their lives. Therapists at Associates in Psychotherapy also use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help our younger clients learn better distress tolerance, problem solving skills, interpersonal effectiveness and improved communication skills, as well as mindfulness practices. We also understand that family sessions are beneficial to address issues and to improve communication and support across the family unit. When working with families, our therapists strive to better understand how to integrate all of the “individual parts” to connect the family as a whole. There are many “parts” that comprise a family, and once a family unit better understands these dynamics, the family stands to become more functional and integrated.
It is our goal to help your child gain confidence, problem solving skills, and increased resilience. Growing up in today’s world is no easy feat. We know that as parents, you may worry about your child or adolescent, and we can help support you and your family during this important time. There is hope, and we can provide effective treatments to help your teen learn more effective ways to move through these challenging years and lead a more positive, confident, and fulfilling life.
